OGDEN -US ARMY UNIFORMS
|
|
|
Henry Ogden was born
on 17 July 1856 and died on 15 June 1936. He studied art in high school and at
the Brooklyn Institute and Brooklyn Academy of Design. As a highly acclaimed
artist who had created illustrations of U. S. Army uniforms in books for young
readers, he was commissioned by the U. S. Army Quartermaster General to prepare
a full history of American Uniforms in watercolor drawings. The first series of
44 was published in 1890 by the Quartermaster General and in a commercial
printing by B. M. Whitlock in New York City, and reprinted several times, as
recently as 1959. Subsequently he prepared 26 more prints for the uniforms up
to 1907. These were reprinted in A. S. Barnes and Company in 1960.
