Extraordinary Wonders
of China and The Yangtze River Cruise

From 8 to 28 June 2007 we participated in the
Vantage Travel Company group tour
to China. It was a wonderful experience. The Vantage Company took care of
everything. And China is an amazing place, where we were able to see much of
the ancient civilization and culture as well as experience first hand the
excitement that permiates the rapidly modernizing Chinese society today. Here
(links on the left) we record impressions from the tour and provide some of the
photography taken during our too brief visit. And below are links to the
photography of each location and city.

Day one - May 8 - Departure from Dulles
Airport, Virginia.

Day two - May 9 - Arrive at
Beijing, China - check into Presidential
Plaza Hotel

Day four - May 11 - Tour to Great Wall and Ming Tombs - visit

Day five - May 12 - tour through Hutong area
in Xuanwu District including lunch with Chinese family and tea with another
family - Tour to Summer Palace - and
visit to Bang Fu Chun Fresh Water Pearl Store - visit to the
Temple of Heaven- evening at Peking
Opera

Day six - May 13 - Bus drive to airport for
flight to Xi'an - Drive through city, check
into ANA Grand Castle Hotel - walk around city - Banquet dinner and musical
show at Tang Dynasty dinner theater.

Day seven - May 14 - Visit to the Xi'an Jin
Jiang Jade Store - visit the Small Wild Goose Pagoda - lunch at the Jiaozi
Dumpling Restaurant - Tour the Qin Museum of the Terra Cotta Army.- evening
walk around the city

|
Day eight - May 15 - Bus to airport - fly to
Hangzhou - check into the Radisson
Plaza Hotel - Visit the provincial museum complex, especially the archeological
exhibits.

|
Day nine - May 16 - Tour to Lingyin Temple -
West Lake cruise - Huangang Park - tea farm and museum - lunch with Chinese
family -
|
|
|
Day ten - May 17 - Visit to Huqingyutang
Traditional Chinese Medicine and Pharmacy museum - lunch - walking tour of
Hefang street - bus to train station for high speed train to
Shanghai - check into Regent Shanghai
Hotel - evening attendance at Chinese Acrobatic Troup in spectacular convention
center

Day eleven - May 18 - Bus tour of Shanghai -
Bund - Old Town and Yu Garden - Shanghai Museum - evening tour including to
tall building for view of city.

|
Day twelve - May 19 - Bus tour to Zhujiajiao
Ancient Water town
|
|
|
Day thirteen - May 20 - Attend Church service
- bus to airport for flight to Yichang -
drive through Yichang and dinner - board the Victoria Cruise line ship for
cruise on Yangtze.

|
|
Day fourteen - May 21 - Cruising on
Yangtze - visit to the Three Gorges Dam
- pass through the lock and cruise through the Xiling Gorge
|
|
|
Day fifteen - May 22 - Stop at Wushan - transfer to smaller ship for cruise
up Daning River through the Little Three Gorges - then travel in small boat
through narrow canyon.

Day sixteen - May 23 - Cruise on Yangtze -
stop to visit Fengdu "ghost' town.
|
|
|
Day seventeen - May 24 - Arrive
Chongqing and disembark - tour to
Stilwell Museum and Flying Tiger Chenault Museum - transfer to airport for
flight to Guilin - check into Lijiang
Waterfall Hotel - evening view the waterfall and walk around the downtown area.

|
Day eighteen - May 25 - Full day cruise on
the Li River - stop for shopping in Yangshou - a town devoted to the tourist
trade.
|
|
|
Day nineteen - May 26 - Visit to Seven Star
Park and Reed Flute Cave - transfer to airport for flight to
Hong Kong - check into Royal Pacific
Hotel and Towers.

|
Day twenty - May 27 - Bus tour of Hong Kong -
tramway to top of Victoria Peak- tour to
Repulse Bay and Aberdeen Fishing Village
including harbor ride in small boat. Fairwell banquet in hotel
|

Day twenty- one - May 28 - Bus to hugeHong Kong airport and flight back to
Washington D. C.
