TOUR IN 1964
|
|
|
In 1964 I had a special opportunity to join a
Canadian photographer club tour in Russia, Ukraine, George and Uzbekistan -
That year the Russian wheat harvest was exceptionally poor and Khruschev was
anxious to obtain as much Canadian wheat as possible. Hence this tour received
extraordinary opportunities for photography and meetings with local Soviet
camera clubs. Here are some of the photos from that tour, as this was the only
such tour I had to these special places. But the photography of Moscow and
Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) is included in the folders for those cities with
many photographs from later visits..

Yalta and Pytagorsk - We flew from Moscow to
Yalta and then flew to Pytagorsk in preparation for crossing the Caucasus

We flew to Tashkent for a brief stop - then
to Samarkand and Bukhara and back to Tashkent enroute to Leningrad - But
Tashkent was still recovering from a terrible earthquake ande there was not
much to photograph.

But Samarkand was am extraordinary visual
experience, historical also.

|
Bukhara has a similar ancient and medieval
history as does Samarkand but not the gorgeous architecture
