In this directory we have assembled the photos and text created by John Sloan over the past few years as a result of our visits to military museums in Russia and Ukraine.

Photos taken in the fabulous Armory museum in the Moscow Kremlin. These include not only medieval military items but also a full range of Imperial exhibits from crowns to state coaches. In addition here are some photos of captured Napoleonic artillery in the Kremlin.

Photos of the military fortress open museum - Smolensk The entire remaining sections of the fortress is a museum to 16-17th century Russian fortifications. Smolensk was then by far the most powerful fortress in Russia and one of the powerful remaining medieval high walled cities before the introduction to Vauban style bastions in Russia.

Museum memorial of the Battle of Borodino - There is a large Borodino Museum in Moscow - a cyclorama like at Gettysburg but unfortunatly it was closed for repair during one visit and so full of visitors on another that I could not take many photos. But there is also a smaller museum on the Borodino battlefield of which I have photos.
