Here we have photographs of the remaining cathedral on the Izmailovo Estate east of Moscow. It is but a short walk down hill from the Izmailovo hotel complex and should not be missed by visitors.

Plaque showing Peter I and his sailing boat on wall of the Pokrovski Cathedral. Peter found a sailing boat the the English had given to Tsar Ivan IV. The tsar had given it to the Romanovs who left it in a shed on the estate at Izmailovo. Peter arranged for his Dutch friend to fix it and to teach him to sail. This was the 'grandfather' of the Russian navy.

Plaque with description of the Pokrovski (Intercession of the Blessed Virgin) Cathedral, 1671-79, built by Kostroma builders led by master Ivan Kuznechik of stone to take the place of a wooden shatrovski (tent) church on the Romanov estate at Izmailovo.

Entrance to the cathedral. It is 57 meters high. The cathedral was built by Tsar Feodor Alekseivich and dedicated by Patriarch Yoakim on 30 Sept 1679.
