Plaque showing Peter I and his sailing boat on wall of the Pokrovski Cathedral. Peter found a sailing boat the the English had given to Tsar Ivan IV. The tsar had given it to the Romanovs who left it in a shed on the estate at Izmailovo. Peter arranged for his Dutch friend to fix it and to teach him to sail. This was the 'grandfather' of the Russian navy.
