This is a recent addition to the literature about the conflict between China
and the United States. The author provides an excellent summary history of
Chinese civilization (it is more than a country or society or nation or
empire). The fundamental characteristics of Chinese civilization today are a
continuation of those from a thousand years B.C. The Chinese understanding of
their past dominates their view of what their society should be in the world
future. The author also describes American historical development as the
background for understanding what American leaders have believed about China -
fundamental misunderstanding.
Please read also the book by Clive Hamilton, Exposing How the Chinese
Communist Party is reshaping the World for which I include a link below and
with it I link to other important reference books. Hamilton describes the
detailed activities the CCP has implemented in turning the world upside down as
Prestowitz provides the broader Chinese thinking and policies. The actual
'struggle' is not simply for 'leadership' but for domination and hegemony
control.
