This map from VBeskrovni's Atlas depicts the siege and battle at Narva
in 1700 - Peter launched his war with an attack on and siege of the Swedish
fortress city at Narva. While he was focused on the siege, Swedish King Charles
XII in a masterful campaign surprised the Russians and attacked through theis
siege lines. Most of the Russian force was destroyed or captured but some
escaped over a bridge to the north of the city. The map shows the Russian army
was divided into the commands of Golovin, Trubetskoi, Weide and Sheremetsev.
