  {short description of image}

He was the son of Yuri Vladimirovich Dolgorukii, prince of Suzdal and his second wife. He was grand prince of Vladimir from 1174-1175 or 76). He married about in 1175 with Fevronia. Their son was Boris, crown prince of Vladimir. Boris died without heir. The family is shown on this chart.
Following Andrei Bogoliubskii"s death the Vladimirites passed up his son and his brother in favor of two nephews, Mstislav and Yaropolk Rostislavich (see chart). They had been exiled by Andrei and lived with their uncles in Chernigiv. Having received permission from the Rostovians they moved north. The Rostov boyars could not abide by Mikhail and Vsevolod but the Vladimirites accepted Mikhail as their legitimate ruler. They understood well enough, that if the Rostovians took the lead in the territorial dominance, they would not only have to accept a diminished importance but also their loss of independence.
