He was the 4th son of Aleksandr Yaroslavich Nevski, grand prince of Vladimir
and Aleksandra Bryachislavna, princess of Polotsk. He was appanage prince of
Moscow from 1277 to 1303, the first prince to declare Moscow as his capital.
His sons were Yuri III , grand prince of Vladimir;
Ivan I Kalita, prince of Moscow; and
Boris, prince of Nizhigorod;
Aleksandr; and Afanasii, crown prince (born about
1303 and died about 1320 without heirs); and his daughter was Aleksandra. The
