BRYACHISLAV IZYASLAVICH (ca 997 - 1044)

 
   
 

He was the son of Izyaslav Vladimirovich, ruler of Polotsk. He expanded and strengthened his principality. His son, Vsyeslav, by a quirk of fate ruled as Prince of Kyiv, for a brief time, then returned to continue the line of princes of Polotsk. The family is shown on this chart.
Chronology:
1001 - Bryachislav's father dies.
1021 - He captures Novgorod and then returns to Polotsk but isdefeated at Sudomir River by Yaroslav.
1044 - He is blinded.
