He was the son of Izyaslav Vladimirovich, ruler of Polotsk. He expanded
and strengthened his principality. His son, Vsyeslav,
by a quirk of fate ruled as Prince of Kyiv, for a brief time, then returned to
continue the line of princes of Polotsk. The family is shown on this
