BORODINO BATTLE

This schematic shows how the main column of the French army was diverted off the Borodino road to Moscow in order to attack the forward Russian redoubt at Shevardino. They had to do this prior to deploying to attack the main Russian defense line, which was along a line that included the fletches. Meanwhile Poniatowski's Polish corps moved from the Smolensk road toward Shevardino only to have to move back to the Smolensk road when it was ordered to attack the Russian left flank units.
