Yuriev Monastery - Cathedral of St George.
This was founded in 1119 by Prince Vsyevolod and is a marvel next only to St
Sophia in the kremlin. The Cathedral itself was built by 1130. The foundation
was laid in 1119 with the builder Master Peter named in the chronicle. He is
also believed to have built the Cathedral of Saint Nicholas (See
George)
A frieze from this building was taken to Moscow and placed on the pediment of
the stature of Yuri Dolgoruki. (See Moscow section.) The liturgy books written
for use here between 1120 and1128 are now also in Moscow (museum).
