KREMLIN ARMORY MUSEUM

Remains of 13th century Russian helmet belonging to Yaroslav Vsyevolodovich found on the Lipetski battlefield of 1216 in 1808. The original helmet was iron formed over a hollow wooden half sphere and then silver decorations were tacked onto the whole. Over the centuries the wood rotted away and most of the iron did also, leaving the pieces of silver shown here mounted on a museum display base.
