  {short description of image}

This is the Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Savior (Preobrazhenski) built by Yuri Dolgoruki in 1152 when he laid out the new town on the bank of the Trubezh river and Lake Pleschchevo to guard the northwest corner of his new domain. It is one of the oldest buildings in this part of Russia. Alexander Nevski was born here in 1220 and this is his bust in front of the cathedral.
