Diagram, siege of Leningrad during World War II. This shows how close the German siege lines were to the city. They held the south bank of the Neva River forcing Russians to resort to a 'ice bridge across Lake Ladoga during the winter. They held Peterhof palace but not Orienbaum and its Menshikov palace which the Russians held with the assistance of naval gunfire and fire from Khronstadt fortress.
