the current concensus - 1 Cannae ruin was on the same side fo the River as the
battlefield - in fact it formed the limit of the left flank of the Roman
deployment - 2 - the Roman deployment and hence also the Carthaginian
deployment was aligned between the river and the Cannae ridge so that the river
was not behind the Carthaginian army but more beside it. 3 - The Lybian heavy
infantry was formed in column and not on line behind the Carthaginian cavalry -
4 - the initial deployment of the light infantry on both sides in front of
their main line, that is between the two armies shown here, is not
