Beskrovni map depicts the Russian version of
Balaklava battle. This shows all the phases of the battle. The Russian
commander is General Liprand. 1st the Russian capture of Cathgart's hill (fort
N1) and redoubts (forts N 2, N 3, N 4) on the Causeway, then the cavalry attack
against the Highlanders (commanded by Campbell) at Kadikoi, then the battle
between the British heavy brigade (Scarlett) and Russian cavalry in the south
valley and finally the Charge of the Light Brigade (Cardigan) down the north
valley. But it is in error in making it appear that the Light Brigade crossed
the Causeway as it began its charge. The arrow should start from a position
further north and then be more parallel to the causeway. The British infantry
brigades of Cathcart and Cambridge are shown moving down from the Sapun Gor
height in support (too late for action). Note at top center is the Inkerman
height and at its northern end the Inkerman monastery in the caves of the
medieval Kalimata fortress. But the later battle of Inkerman took place, not on
this height, but rather on the opposite side of the Chernaya stream in the
midst of the British siege line shown in blue on the Sapun Gor height.
