BALAKLAVA BATTLE -
CRIMEAN WAR

This view of Balaklava harbor is taken from the ridge line very near the narrow entrance. We are looking north toward Kadikoi at the far end and the Balaklava battlefield beyond. Until the breakup of the Soviet Union this was an important submarine base of the Black Sea Fleet. Now it is a fishing village as it was in pre-revolutionary times. Some day enterprising entrepreneurs will turn the lovely place into an artists colony and tourist attraction.
