This illustration from a 19th century book gives a 'bird's eye' view of Balaklava harbor looking south. The Chembalo fortress is on the left side headland. When the British supply ships were here the harbor was crammed with vessels side by side. The church that is still there and being renovated now is visible at one end of the village. |
