YANGTZE RIVER - CHINA

Kuimen - the narrow opening on the upriver - western - end of the Qutang Gorge - pavilons overlooking the river - calligraphy inscribed on the cliffs. During the Song Dynasty the river was blocked to traffic by a chain in order for the officials to collect tolls. A part of Baidicheng appears at upper left.
