Detail of map 24 in Innermostasia - this is the southern edge of the map sheet but all the northern part is blank - It shows the northern limit of Stein's routes along the eastern end of the T'ien Shan east of Kara-shahr ruin - The town was the capital of early medieval nomad kingdom due to its loction on the river and in a relatively low break in the mountain range enabling easier passages south.
