the Survey of India who replaced Ram Singh), Standing: Ibrfahim Beg (important
local leader who assisted Stein greatly), Jasvant Singh (Rajput cook and
assistant for Lal Singh), Naik Ram Singh (corporal in Indian army engineers
whose carpentry expertise enabled Stein to build crates for artifacts and who
went blind from diabetes during the expedition.
