Note: 1. In studying the Soviet offensive operation they generally study the
defensive operation of the opposing forces at the appropriate level, for
instance, in teaching the offensive operation of the combined arms army, the
defense of the enemy corps is thoroughly studied, including principles of
defense, forms of defense, the role and place of the army corps in the defense
of the higher echelon, combat formations, elements of combat formations,
defensive belts and positions, depth and width of the defense, and the methods
of conducting a defensive battle.
2. The operational-tactical exercise is worked out in a way to give the
students an opportunity to determine the type of enemy defense, such as a
mobile or an area defense, and accordingly make their decision.
3. The organization of the forces of all NATO member countries from brigade to
army group along with tactical and technical characteristics of combat
equipment such as aircraft, ships, tanks, APCs, guns, etc., are compiled in
separate textbooks and given to the students for their use.
4. In exams the knowledge of the students about the organization, tactics, and
technical and tactical characteristics of enemy equipment are taken very
seriously.
